“There’s no throne. There is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it’s too much for us, but it’s all on you. Because if we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damned well sure we’ll avenge it!”
In anticipation of the April 2019 release of Avengers: Endgame, we gave free rein to our inner nerds and profiled several Avengers heroes.
A great thing about having all the greatest superheroes pulling together to battle evil is that we get a whole bunch of fairly well-established super personalities to compare and contrast.
That being said, there are an awful lot of Avengers and personalities. For this series, we decided to prioritize the Avengers who were still alive after the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
We plan to do more profiles over time as new movies come out.

For those characters who don’t have enough backstory to really do them justice in a full article, here is a quick look at those remaining Avengers and friends (or frenemies) remaining for our latest Avengers installment.
Nebula – Turbulent Logistician
Ever wonder what a Turbulent Logistician (ISTJ-T) looks like? Well look no further than Nebula, child of Thanos and one of the survivors at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
Most of Thanos’s “children” are pretty messed up. Nebula is no exception. However, as a former enemy and now a tentative ally, she earns a spot on the Avengers’ roster for our personality typing because she is expected to play a pretty big role in this latest Avengers movie.
Fortunately for us, Nebula’s personality isn’t too difficult to type. In our opinion, Nebula is a Turbulent Logistician. She shows all the characteristics of being a Thinking type, having little to no regard for her own feelings or those of the people around her.
With her Judging personality trait, she’s decisive and sticks to her goals with single-minded focus.
As an Introvert, she is a complete loner. Even when she comes to a tentative truce with her sister, Gamora, and a loose alliance with the Guardians of the Galaxy, she still determines her own missions and goes solo to carry them out.
Nebula has a singularly painful past. At first she is driven to live up to insurmountable expectations, and later she is driven to seek revenge for her earlier treatment. That intense Turbulent Identity molds her life and focus.
With that, we have but to add that she’s pretty much focused on the here and now and somewhat on the immediate future. She’s not one for thinking beyond her own plans, or out of the box she exists in. So she settles into the Observant type category.
Thor – Assertive Entertainer or Maybe Consul
When we first meet Thor as a Marvel Cinematic Universe hero, he is sent on a journey. He must either find himself or be forever separated from his own power. He starts off this journey as an impulsive, headstrong, defiant – but naive – god of Thunder.
Over the course of the movie Thor, he comes to understand the consequences of his actions.
When we first meet him, Thor seems to behave as an Assertive Entertainer (ESFP-A). Through his journey and across the time and space of Marvel’s progression of movies, Thor’s character seems to change, and eventually he seems to pull more on his Judging side, appearing more like an Assertive Consul (ESFJ-A).
“We drank, we fought, he made his ancestors proud!”
He is outgoing, honest, sincere, and straightforward. He isn’t always the smartest guy, but he is always endeavoring to do right by everyone. He will forgive at a moment’s notice and similarly can’t seem to hold a grudge against anyone – except maybe Thanos. (We’ll see.) Despite all the wrongs Loki has done, Thor will still stand up and fight for him just as he’ll happily stand up and fight with or for anyone who needs it.
“Your ancestors called it magic, and you call it science. Well, I come from a place where they are one and the same thing.”
As an Observant personality type, he is pretty much grounded in reality. His reality is a lot more mystical and complex than most of ours, but it is a reality to him. He doesn’t seem to have any inclination toward losing himself in imagination or theory. He has a fondness for the worlds as they are and sets himself up as a protector of them as they are.
He has the classic Consul drive to build up, support, and see the best in all those around him. He is also gregarious and seems to always be up for lifting a glass to praise his comrades and the glories of battle. These are all from the Feeling and Extraverted side of his personality.
As the Avengers series progresses, we see him become more serious in his effort to keep up with the responsibilities placed upon him. His journey eventually brings him the maturity of personality and perspective to lead his people through a very dark time.
Is he a very gregarious Consul or is he an Entertainer who is forced to be more serious and focused because of his circumstances?
Black Widow / Natasha Romanova
“I only ACT like I know everything.”
We have decided that Natasha Romanova, also known as the Black Widow, is a bit too complex of a character to type just based on what we know of her from the MCU movies. A fascinating and complex individual, at first glance she seems to exhibit clear behaviors of a Logistician personality type. If we dive a little deeper into her personality, though, this doesn’t completely fit her.
“The truth is a matter of circumstances. It’s not all things to all people all the time, and neither am I.”
According to her history, she has been trained as a spy and assassin. Whatever training she has been through presumably involved some sort of mental manipulation and control. She plays the part that she has been conditioned to. Whether she is truly a Logistician or if that’s a facade that she has been trained to maintain and now uses to protect herself isn’t entirely clear. (See our Handmaid’s Tale article for a more in-depth discussion of adaptive personalities.)
Natasha Romanova is very aware of and sensitive to people’s emotions and motivations. Does she read and manipulate people solely through observation and rote knowledge, or is there something of the Intuitive trait at work? We aren’t entirely sure. Her ability to play individuals and their emotions to get exactly what she wants out of them seems almost like the potentially manipulative side of a Diplomat personality type.
Certainly if we look at her behavior with the people she cares about (as opposed to when she is acting to get a response from people), she can be very intuitive and understanding, as well as very willing to be open emotionally. Take, for example, her interactions with Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, or even her old friend Clint Barton. Her ability to understand them and provide the emotional support they need isn’t really characteristic of a classic Logistician.
With that explanation, we feel she’s a bit too complex to confidently present a personality type at this time.
Conclusions
Thus ends our Avengers personality series for now, but if you’re wondering, yes, we will be endeavoring to do additional Avengers profiles as new movies come out. Watch this space for “Spiderman: The Personality Profile,” coming this summer.
